Stainless Steel Investment Casting

Release time: 2024-12-07Author: Feilang

Stainless steel investment casting, also known as precision casting or lost wax casting, is a casting process with little or no cutting and is widely used in various manufacturing fields.

Stainless Steel Investment Casting Process:

1. Mould design and production:

● First, design the corresponding mold according to the shape and size of the required part. The mold can be a sand mold, plaster mold, ceramic mold or metal mold.

● When making a mold, a fusible material (such as wax or plastic) is often used to make a fusible model, that is, a melting mold.

2. Apply refractory coating:

● Apply multiple layers of special refractory coating on the investment pattern, which will form an integral shell after drying and hardening.

● The number of layers and particle size of the coating will affect the surface quality and accuracy of the final casting.

3. Dewaxing and roasting:

● Use steam or hot water to melt the investment pattern from the shell, leaving an empty shell.

● Place the shell in a baking furnace and bake it at high temperature to make it stronger and more stable.

4. Pouring and cooling:

● Pour the hot molten stainless steel into the mold shell to fill the space previously formed by the investment mold.

● Allow the stainless steel liquid to cool and solidify in the mold shell to form the desired casting.

5. Cleaning and processing:

● Separate the mold shell from the casting and clean the residue on the casting.

● Perform necessary processing and inspection on the casting to ensure its dimensional accuracy and surface quality.

Technical Advantages of Stainless Steel Investment Casting:

● High precision: Due to the precise molds and sophisticated coating process used in investment casting, castings with extremely high dimensional accuracy can be produced.

● High surface quality: The surface quality of the castings is excellent and no extensive subsequent processing is required.

● Wide material adaptability: The process is not only suitable for stainless steel, but also for casting of various types and various alloys.

● Complex shapes: Investment casting can produce castings with complex shapes and internal structures, which are difficult to achieve with other casting methods.

As a sophisticated manufacturing process, stainless steel investment casting plays an irreplaceable role in many fields. With the advancement of science and technology and industrial development, the stainless steel investment casting industry will continue to develop in the direction of high precision, high strength and high efficiency.
